Sowing a Dream

Pine River Shares Cultivates a Self-Sustaining Food Future for the Valley

Tucked away in Gem Village, the Pine River Shares Community Food Farm is sparking a bold revival of local agriculture. Launched in January 2024, our 10-acre farm is more than just rows of crops—it’s a year-round powerhouse of fresh produce, complete with a massive triple greenhouse and cozy low tunnels that defy the seasons.

It’s the heart of the Field2Fork project, a constituent-led mission to rebuild the local food system from the ground up. Thanks to a mix of funding from the American Rescue Plan Act, generous local donors, and community grants, this little patch of land is a beacon of food security and resilience for the Pine River Valley.

Decades ago, the Pine River Valley thrived on homegrown food, with neighbors trading milk, grains, and garden veggies. But over time, that tradition faded as modern jobs pulled people away from their farms and gardens. The Community Food Farm is breathing new life into those lost rhythms, offering not just fresh greens, but a living classroom where locals can rediscover the roots of self-sufficiency.

Managed by Pine River Shares, this farm isn’t just about feeding people—it’s about empowering them, teaching sustainable farming practices, and reminding the community that it can take care of itself.

What makes this farm truly special is the energy pulsing through it—from the hands of schoolkids planting seedlings to longtime residents sharing old growing tricks. It’s a place where people roll up their sleeves, dig into the dirt, and grow more than just food. They’re growing a movement. This collaboration between generations is turning the farm into a vibrant hub of connection and purpose.

In a world where rural communities often face scarcity, the Pine River Shares Community Food Farm offers something rare: abundance, shared by all. Because when everyone shares, no one goes without.
